About MuralsDC
MuralsDC is an annual graffiti abatement program in partnership with the DC Department of Public Work (DPW). Aerosol murals are painted on selected “tagged” walls across the District to enhance sites within neighborhoods. Through a competitive process graffiti and aerosol mural artists and artist teams are selected to design, create and install aerosol murals as part of the MuralsDC program.

MuralsDC was initiated in 2007 by the late Ward 1 Councilmember Jim Graham as a way to combat the rising tide of illegal graffiti, to revitalize sites within the community and to teach young people the art of aerosol painting.

DPW solicits property owners to nominate graffiti “tagged” walls for consideration for the program.

CAH solicits qualified artist to design and paint aerosol murals as well as manages the grant award.

For site recommendations, sponsorship opportunities and information please contact Nancee Lyons at the Department of Public Works, or (202) 671-2637.
