Commission on the Arts and Humanities Announces Major Updates to General Operating Support Grant Program

Washington, DC – The Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH) is pleased to announce significant enhancements to its General Operating Support (GOS) grant program. Designed to provide crucial support to nonprofit arts, humanities, and arts education organizations, the GOS program has been expanded to offer new opportunities and increased stability for eligible applicants.

New to the GOS grant program this year is the introduction of a third application category specifically aimed at capacity building. This cohort will focus on supporting small arts and humanities organizations that have not previously received a grant from CAH. By extending assistance to these entities, CAH aims to foster growth and sustainability within the local arts and humanities community, thereby enriching the cultural landscape of our region.

Furthermore, CAH is excited to announce the introduction of multi-year funding options for GOS organizations. Recognizing the importance of stability and long-term planning for these vital institutions, CAH will offer multi-year funding resources for fiscal years 2025 and 2026. This initiative is poised to provide GOS organizations with greater financial security, enabling them to focus more on their artistic and educational missions.

"We are dedicated here at CAH to ensuring that our General Operating Support grants are not only distributed equitably and fairly, but also that they are accessible and aligned with the ecosystem we aim to serve. While we lead the nation per capita in granting awards to individuals artists, our commitment extends further to addressing the specific needs of our nonprofit organizations within this ecosystem, with an explicit focus on enhancing our General Operating Support grant program for our 2025 Fiscal Year." - Aaron Myers, Executive Director

“We are thrilled to launch the new capacity building cohort within the General Operating Support (GOS) grant! This program provides a supportive entry point for small and emerging organizations to access valuable skill-building resources, further empowering them to achieve their missions.” - Terrell Johnson, Senior Grants Officer
