Overview
The UPS grant program offers capacity building support to established DC-based arts and humanities nonprofit organizations. Eligible organizations face operational and infrastructure challenges that obstruct their organizational and programmatic sustainability.
Upstart is designed to support arts and humanities organizations with intensive technical assistance through consulting. Additionally, it provides funding for core administrative systems, leadership development, and operating reserves. Projects funded through Upstart typically include consulting services for various areas. These areas include information technology, communications, fundraising strategy, organizational development, executive coaching, financial management, strategic planning and governance. Each grantee's participation is overseen by external consultants contracted by CAH. These consultants administer organizational assessments and work with participants on their capacity building projects.
