FY26 JEG Application and Submission Information

Submission Deadline: Monday | December 1, 2025 | 9:00 PM EST 

A. Application Submission Portal

CAH utilizes an online grant portal to receive grant applications. The JEG application may be found online in the CAH Grant Application Portal. Incomplete, incorrect, or late applications may be deemed ineligible for review and funding.

B. Artwork submission requirements

  1. Submit Images of artwork for consideration:
    • Individual applicants are allowed to submit up to five (5) artworks for consideration.
    • All applicants are allowed to submit multi-part artwork(s), for example, diptychs or triptychs, and works that are a part of a series. These artworks will count as one artwork within the allowable maximum for portfolio submission from individual artists (five).
  2. Submitted artworks must follow the below eligibility requirements for award:
    • Artwork must be in excellent condition, with no damage or conservation requirements.
    • Site specific works or works in progress can be proposed and submitted using renderings with accompanying written descriptions in the applicant’s artist statement.
    • Artwork sizing should take into consideration the space constraints of the gallery.
    • Hanging installations are permissible where existing hardware is installed in the gallery.
    • Artworks requiring electricity are eligible and should take into consideration placement of existing gallery outlets.
    • The overall weight of any single wall-mounted artwork must not exceed 60 lbs.; the overall weight of any sculpture that stands on a pedestal must not exceed 100 lbs. Any sculpture must be displayable on the wall or a pedestal. Wall sculpture may only extend six inches from the wall.
    • Artwork must be framed, have appropriate hardware, and/or be ready for installation in the exhibition.
  3. Selected List of Prohibited Materials:
    • Liquids, including but not limited to water, in unsealed or sealed containers.
    • Materials that produce vapor, smoke, mists, and/or odors.
    • Flammable, toxic, volatile, and/or explosive materials.
    • Weapons or firearms.
    • Live animals and/or insects.

C. Mandatory Document Requirements

In addition to the required narrative questions within the online application, applicants must submit additional documents with the JEG application. Documents must be uploaded in PDF form through CAH Grants Application Portal prior to the application deadline. Mandatory Documents For Individuals
1 Artist Statement(s) Briefly describe your art-making process. Explain how the artwork(s) submitted in the application relates to the themes of the exhibition in the RFA. (250 words max)
2 Artist Resume(s) Submit a document that provides a current list of exhibitions; publications; commissions; collections; and education.
3 Image Identification List

Submit a document listing the details of each uploaded artwork. The list should include the Artist Name, Title, Year, Medium, Dimensions, and Description (including relevance to the theme).

Example Identification Image List:

  1. Artist Name
    Title, Year
    Medium
    Dimensions
    Description (200 words max): The description will be reviewed by the panel and, if the artwork is exhibited, may be used for wall text.
4 Artwork Files

Submit high-quality JPEG files. Files cannot exceed 5MB each.

Applicants are allowed to submit up to five artworks.

Uploading – Applicants must use the Media Viewer to upload each image file of prospective artwork for consideration.

  • For each image uploaded, please complete all required media file fields: Title, Media Type, Media Sub-type, Date, Edition number (optional), Retail price, Dimensions and Description (up to 200 words).
  • After uploading images to the media viewer, the applicant must individually attach the file to their JEG application.

Artwork File Labeling – Identify image files by the Identification Image List number, artist’s last name followed by the artwork title.

Example of File Labeling:
1_ Last Name_Artwork Title.
2_ Last Name_Artwork Title.

5 Certificate of Clean Hands Must be issued within 30 days of the application deadline. Applicants may visit the following site to obtain more information: mytax.dc.gov
6 Statement of Certification

Ensures applicant has met and will maintain all qualifying criteria for certification for duration of award.

Signature date must be current.

7 Signed IRS Form W-9

The applicant’s address must match the address in the grants portal, the address on file with the District’s Integrated Financial System (DIFS) and the address on file in the DC Government’s vendor registration system (PASS). The March 2024 version of IRS Form W-9 must be used and be dated at the time of application submission. Post office boxes are prohibited.

8 Proof of Residency The applicant must submit a copy of a government issued identification or tax return address page as proof of DC residence. If a valid driver’s license or DC Residency ID are unavailable, please submit two (2) other documents demonstrating proof of residency.
9 Written letter of artist’s or estate’s consent

Written letter from the artist or artist’s estate indicating agreement to display the works in the final exhibition if the applicant is selected

Applicants are fully responsible for the content of their application materials. An automated confirmation of an applicant’s submission does not guarantee an applicant’s eligibility and therefore review by the advisory review panel (see below, “Review Process”). CAH staff is not permitted to make corrections to applications on behalf of applicants. CAH staff reviews applications for completeness and contacts applicants for any incomplete documents after the application deadline. Applicants are then responsible for updating their application by the stated deadline. Failure to do so will disqualify the application.
