Artist: Erin Curtis
Title: French Trip
Original Medium: acrylic on cut canvas
About the Work:
“As an artist, I am interested in exploring intersections of architecture and decoration with playful works of art that engage the public and celebrate color and pattern. My work investigates how decorative practices relate to personal expression and cultural identity and draws inspiration from traditional craft and textile traditions from around the globe. For this design, original images of my paintings were mirrored and repeated to create a large wallpaper like pattern, to physically fill an area as large as a recycling truck, while maintaining the handmade detail and nuances of the original painting. For Designed to Recycle I looked to create exciting and colorful designs that will be appreciated by the recycling truck operators and attract the attention of DC residents and, in turn, raise awareness of the important work of recycling in the city.” (Erin Curtis)
