CAH Community Engagement Specialist

Job Summary

The position is located in the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH). The mission of the CAH is to provide grants, programs and educational activities that encourage diverse artistic expressions and learning opportunities, so that all District of Columbia residents and visitors can experience the rich culture of our city.

The incumbent in this role will serve as a technical resource to various individuals, groups, and committees for planning and programmatic engagement and acts as a liaison between government agencies and/or the community.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develops relationships with key stakeholders from the community of arts and humanities organizations, individual artists, and humanities practitioners across the District of Columbia, with the primary goal of ensuring equitable access to, and engagement in, grants and other programmatic opportunities at CAH. Coordinates with CAH’s leadership and programming teams to assess community needs and responds to those needs through the design and implementation of programming opportunities with the goal of deepening engagement and improving operational systems and services to the community.

Coordinates and participates in community engagement activities that include seminars, meetings, and workshops to provide professional development opportunities for the community of arts and humanities organizations, individual artists, and humanities practitioners across the District of Columbia. Participates in the development of social marketing strategies and the dissemination of informational materials, and activities in collaboration with the programming and marketing teams at CAH. Determines the schedule for community engagement activities and maintains an annual calendar for engagement, ensuring programs have the requisite technical, marketing, and personnel supporting them to guarantee their success.

Qualifications and Education

Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the CS-9 grade level in the District of Columbia government service, or equivalent public or private sector. Specialized experience is experience which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position and has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.

Specialized Experience:  Experience ensuring providing information and guidance to the community of arts and humanities organizations, individual artists, and humanities practitioners.

The work is performed mostly in an office environment setting.

Tour of Duty: Monday- Friday 8:15AM- 4:45PM (varies)

Pay Plan, Series and Grade:  CS-301-11

Duration of Appointment: Career Service – Regular

Collective Bargaining Unit (Non-Union):  This position is not in a collective bargaining unit.

Position Designation: The position has been deemed security-sensitive. Accordingly, the incumbent will be subject to pre-employment checks (criminal background checks, consumer credit check, traffic record checks, if applicable) as a condition of employment, and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of your tenure.

Residency Statement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
