FY23 East Arts (EA) FAQs

As of 7/1/2022

General:

Where can I find information about the East of the River (EOR) Grant Program?

This year, the EOR program has been retooled a bit and is now called East Arts. You can find the RFA and more information here.

What are the main differences between the former grant, EOR, and East Arts?

The primary differences involve eligibility and those include:

  • The organization’s principal business office address must be located in the NE or SE quadrant of District of Columbia, subject to an on-site visit.
  • Have an operating budget (Total Cash Expenses) not exceeding $500,000.00 as demonstrated on the organization’s most recently submitted IRS Form 990.
  • Identify as a BIPOC-centered organization. This distinction includes at least one of the following criteria:
    • At least 66% of staff identify as Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC).
    • At least 51% of the board, steering committee, or other leadership body and volunteers in leadership positions identify as BIPOC.
    • The executive director, highest paid staff, or equivalent, identify as a BIPOC individual.

Since more wards are eligible this year, has the total amount of funding for this program increased to reflect that?

Yes and while different wards may be eligible, we did so to be mindful of the recent redistricting.

Eligibility:

Do I need to have received EOR funding in FY21 and FY22 to be grandfathered in?

Yes. We wanted to give organizations who may have received EOR funding regularly, an adjustment period since the change was announced so close to the opening of the application. This is why we are allowing a one time grandfathered exemption for FY23 East Arts.

Application:

Since this, East Arts, is technically a different grant program, are there different application questions this year?

While many questions are the same, there are a few additional ones surrounding I.D.E.A (inclusion, diversity, equity, and access), to reflect CAH's endeavors in centering the tenants of I.D.E.A. in our work and efforts.

Financial Documentation:

Are there any common mistakes you see with the budget information submitted for these applications, that we can try and avoid?

In the past the most common budget misstep has been including only the project budget. While this is a project-based grant, please include the organizational budget and the project budget when uploading budgets. One other tip would be to make sure it is indeed your organization's budget for the fiscal year and not just a quarterly profit and loss statement.
