FY22 Relief and Recovery Fund Individuals (RRFi) FAQs

6/10/2022

General:

What is the difference between RRFi and RRFo?

This year CAH is able to offer two Relief and Recovery Fund programs. RRFi is for individual artists and humanities practitioners who live in DC and RRFo is for non-profit artistic and humanities based organizations, who are not already FY22 grantees.

Does the timing of my submitted application matter?

No, so long as your completed application is submitted in the portal by the deadline (Monday, June 6, 2022 10PM EST). No applications will be accepted after that time. All applications completed and submitted by the deadline will be reviewed for eligibility and completeness.

Eligibility:

How can I demonstrate that I am an artist/humanities practitioner in DC if I cannot upload any Work Samples?

While work samples are not a part of the RRFi application, the support materials and resume uploaded should reflect your artistic work and experience.

Can literary artists who don't make as much as other artists, still apply for this funding even though they may have lost "less"?

The type of artist or humanities practitioner that you are does not matter, nor does the amount a piece of yours may sell for so long as you are a DC resident who is a practicing artist or humanities practitioner. For full eligibility please see the RFA available here: FY22 Relief and Recovery Fund (RRF) Individuals RFA.

I am an individual artist who has been awarded an FY22 AHFP award. Can I still apply?

Yes, so long as you meet all of the other eligibility requirements outlined in the FY22 Relief and Recovery Fund (RRF) Individuals RFA.

I am an independent contractor who has an artist contract as an actor with an organization who is funded by CAH. Does this impact my eligibility to apply for RRFi?

No, it does not, that would actually work as a support document for the RRFi application. If you meet all other eligibility requirements, we encourage you to apply.

Is it possible to apply as an individual (RRFi) and apply for a separate organization (RRFo)?

Yes, you can apply as an individual artist and if you are also part of an organization you can apply for that organization (please note, for RRFo, the organization has to have NOT been awarded any FY22 CAH grant). However, we do ask that the materials and applications are clearly very separate and do not use the exact same support materials.

Application Mandatory Documents:

Is the Individual Demographic form to be included with RRF-Individual applications?

The inclusion of the Individual Demographics Overview (IDO) Form is not required at the time of application, but may be required of each applicant prior to award notification.

I only have a formal resume of our survival or part time work, can I submit that?

When we ask for an individual artist's resume, we are looking for a resume of their artistic work. It allows reviewers and panelists to see the breadth of your artistic work, where it has taken place, and when. However, if you do not have a full artistic resume, we will accept a list of your artistic programs, projects, education, etc. from the last three years. You do not need to submit a customer service or admin resume even if you sometimes do that work to help support yourself.

Support Documentation:

What if I am an artist who is usually subcontracted for work? I don't necessarily have the official cancellation notices, or canceled contracts.

That is perfectly fine. Are you able to secure written documentation from the person who contracted you regarding the cancellation? Even in an email format, if it was how you were notified it would suffice. Also please note the two pieces of support documentation can also speak to work you HAVE secured, and again an email 'offer letter' would also suffice for this. We know every artist’s situation will be unique to them and are available to help confirm if your support documents will suffice or help you brainstorm something else that will work. Feel free to email Krystle Seit [email protected].

I don't have sufficient documentation of a recent cancellation, as it was through text message. But I am a DC work artist who has lost income so am I still eligible?

If you have documentation of your artistic work that has taken, or will take, place during the FY22 grant period (October 1, 2021- September 30, 2022 that would work as documentation that you are working on 'recovering' and rebounding as you start to secure more artistic work. Your 2 support documents can speak to canceled work or current work, Some examples of this type of documentation would include contracts, invoices for artistic work completed, advertisements of a gallery show, performance, etc.

Do all of my support materials need to be from work done or canceled in DC?

While we know and recognize that many DC residents may work throughout the DMV area, we do ask that at least one be from in DC as to demonstrate that your art contributes to the city, per the RFA guidelines.

I lost equipment that I use for my art in an accident which resulted in a loss of work. Would documentation of this work as a support material?

No, due to the nature of the program,  any cancellations and/or loss of income must be due to COVID-19.
