Our City, Ourselves: Women Photograph Washington
March 29 – May 21, 2021
Curated by the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities. A virtual platform was used as an alternative to the brick and mortar gallery space, which is closed to the public due to COVID-19 health protocols.
Washington, DC, is a city of photographers—photojournalists, multi-media and conceptual artists, landscape and portrait photographers—many of whom train their camera on the city itself. This exhibition features work by women photographers who capture the heart and soul of Washington, DC: the people, places, and interactions that define the District.
The exhibition features 52 photographs by 25 artists. All artworks belong to the District’s Art Bank Collection.

Throughout the run of Our City, Ourselves, we invite photographers to take pictures across all eight wards of the District and share them on social media. Use the hashtag #OurCityCAH and tag the ward in which the picture was taken. On the evening of May 20, we will showcase some of the most powerful images and hear from their creators. This event is a community celebration of photographers, their pictures, and the inspiration offered by our city and its people.
