Maria Rooney is Principal of IDS Consulting LLC, a multi-service firm providing a wide range of arts communication and education solutions to cultural organizations. She has more than 25 years of experience in the field of fine arts, with an expertise in producing educational multimedia programs for museums and historic sites. In collaboration with artists, museum directors, curators, and educators, she’s produced over 200 mixed media programs for both students and adults. Her productions have received numerous industry awards from the National Association for Interpretation, and the Association of Partners for Public Lands. Clients have included the Smithsonian Institution, The Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the National Gallery of Canada among many others.
In addition to her work with Discovery Communications and Antenna Audio, Rooney has served as Registrar for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania, overseeing their fine arts, prints, and manuscripts collections. Prior to that, she worked at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in their 20th Century Art Department as Exhibition Researcher.
Through her years of involvement in the arts community, Rooney has developed a broad vision of the arts and museum fields, a facility for communicating creative concepts in a compelling and approachable way, and an infectious enthusiasm for arts education. She volunteers for a number of cultural and community-focused organizations throughout the District, and is committed to the goal of making art accessible to everyone, everyday.
