Statement On The National Endowment for the Arts

Thursday, February 2, 2017

Dear Colleagues in the Arts and Humanities:

Recent news reports have raised the issue of funding cuts to federal agencies. There has been speculation about changes that would affect the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH). NEA funding supports just over three percent of CAH's FY17 total budget. CAH receives no funding from the NEH.

The Federal budget process is a lengthy one, and we have no information at this point regarding spending adjustments or other plans for the NEA or NEH. We continue to monitor the situation daily with our colleagues from other State Arts Agencies, the National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and the NEA, and we will share any significant information as it becomes available.

We are planning for contingencies should funding to the NEA be negatively altered in this remainder of this fiscal year or beyond. You have my assurance that any impact will be minimized with regard to our grant programs and that we will remain committed to provide the highest level of service to our arts and humanities community in the District of Columbia.

Most sincerely,
Arthur Espinoza, Jr.
Executive Director
