MuralsDC will launch its eighth season with a mural by renown artist and native Washingtonian Aniekan Udofia. Udofia will complete his original work of art on the entrance of the William H. Rumsey Aquatic Facility, in the midst of a carnival atmosphere of festivities to include: a performance by TSNY DC trapeze school, face painting, animal balloons, cotton candy, free give-aways and more.
Cirque du Soleil, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, will be responsible for much of the fun-filled atmosphere by providing the face painting and the performers from the TSNY DC Trapeze school and will also give away some tickets to its performance of “Amaluna,” which opens the same day.
MuralsDC, founded in 2007, is an initiative funded by DPW that combats the growing trend of illegal graffiti, by revitalizing blighted and vandalized properties with creative, innovative murals throughout the District of Columbia. To date, the program has produced nearly 50 murals citywide.
