The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center - State of Hope

Title of Artist Call: SculptFest 2017 – “The State of Hope”
Organization: The Carving Studio & Sculpture Center

Call Summary: WEST RUTLAND, VT- The Carving Studio and Sculpture Center invites artists to submit proposals for SculptFest 2017, September 10 - October 23. The theme for this year’s outdoor exhibition is “The State of Hope” guest curated by artist Whitney Ramage. Ms. Ramage is a Pratt Institute graduate who lives and works in New York City.

In recent history hope has been the apex political rhetoric. What does it mean to us now? How can we resist mounting despair? Hope in dark times is more vital than hope in times of prosperity. Without it there can be no action. In times like these, artists have a responsibility to push forward.

By examining hope from all possible angles we will seek to gain forward momentum. Artists and artist teams are invited to submit proposals for sculpture, installation, video or performance to be exhibited on the historic grounds of the Carving Studio and Sculpture Center in West Rutland, Vermont.
