José Alberto Uclés is originally from Honduras and has lived in Washington, DC for the last 30 years. He is a proud Latino, Gay and artistic man, who acquired a home in Ward 5 - 11 years ago. He is proud of his modest collection of art from artists in WDC. Besides his love for the fine arts, architecture, design, literature, history, technology, social sciences, recycling and fashion. Mr. Uclés has a soft spot for plays, musicals, opera, and music. Being an avid theater aficionado, he has previously served as a Helen Hayes Awards judge for Outstanding Theater.
Previously Mr. Uclés was Assistant Director of Development at the Whitman-Walker Clinic (’96-‘99) the premier clinic for HIV/AIDS in WDC, and the first Latino to be Director of the famed DC Capital Pride Festival (’97-’99). He was also on the Board of Directors for the Millennium March on Washington for Equality 2000. His favored charity is Grandma’s House/Terrific Inc. – an organization that helps children and youth with HIV and AIDS in WDC.
Mr. Uclés is a graduate of American University (WDC) with a Master’s Degree in Public Relations and of Goshen College (Goshen, IN) with a BA in Communications and a Minor in Business Administration. He is an active member of the Bloomingdale/LeDroit community and with his partner Tom Noll- a sculptor and landscape designer/gardener they bring beauty and whimsy to their neighborhood. He believes in the nurturing and transformative power of art in all its forms and that Washington, DC with its diverse cultures and artistic community is indeed a world-class destination for all to enjoy and appreciate.
