International Declaration of Principles

Participation in Fete de la Musique is based on the following principles:

1. Fete de la Musique events take place every year on or around June 21.

2. Fete de la Musique events are aimed at enhancing the scope and diversity of musical  practices in all

    of the musical genres.

3. Fete de la Musique is an appeal to spontaneous and free music participation open to individuals or

ensembles (instrumental or singing) and musical institutions to give both amateurs and professionals

the opportunity to express their musical talent.

4. All concerts must be free to the public. The co-organizers undertake the responsibility to promote musical

practice and live music within this framework without a profit-making goal.

5. Fete de la Musique is an exceptional day for all types of music.

6. Fete de la Musique events as often as possible are outdoors, taking place in streets, squares, public parks,

etc. Indoor venues may also be used as long as they respect the rule of free entry to the public. Fete de la

Musique is the opportunity to access and open places that are not traditionally concert venues to the public:

   museums, hospitals, public buildings, etc.
