Grant Writing Assistance

Workshops:
Throughout the entire year, DCCAH staff are available to help you develop the most effective grant application possible. DCCAH offers live group and individual assistance as you are preparing your applications and after they have been evaluated by the advisory panel, and you can access instructional videos on this website 24 hours a day.

On “Workshop Wednesdays,” DCCAH staff conduct general workshops where you learn everything you need to know about DCCAH and the steps to take to submit a grant application. At these workshops, held every other Wednesday unless otherwise noted below, staff and applicants discuss each opportunity that DCCAH offers to assist DC artists and arts organizations in sharing their creativity. To assist grant recipients, workshops will also include detailed instruction on how to properly complete final reports due at the end of each fiscal year.

Application Review:
Once you have begun working on a grant application, you should make an appointment with the coordinator of the grant program(s) you are interested in. Staff members do not score applications or select grantees, so they are able to offer targeted, one-on-one assistance without influencing the award process. We encourage you to send staff members your drafts and meet with them to discuss strategies to help showcase your project in the best possible way.

Application Review:
You can continue to learn how to write a great application, even after it has been evaluated by the panel. After you have received notification from DCCAH about the status of your application, you should meet again with the program coordinator(s) to talk about the panelists’ feedback. This is a great way for all applicants, regardless of funding status, to identify the strengths in their applications and target areas for improvement.
