High Profile Opportunity for Qualified Public Artists
DC Creates Public Art, an initiative of the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities DC Creates Program, is seeking artists with prior public art experience for highly visible art installations around the city.
The sites call for a range of artistic styles and dimensions. The works of art will serve as community landmarks, gateways and provide an overall sense of place and cultural style at their various installation sites.
The DC Creates Program purchases, commissions and installs artwork for public sites throughout the District of Columbia. The program was established by 1986 legislation that allocates up to one percent of the District's adjusted Capital Budget for the commission and acquisition of artwork.
DC Creates initiatives include:
Art Bank: The Art Bank is the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities' movable collection of works purchased from local artists.
DC Creates Public Art: The DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities commissions artists to create permanent public art works at neighborhood sites that have been nominated by District residents. The goal of the program is to involve community members in bringing quality public art projects to their neighborhoods while creating opportunities for local artists.
The deadline for receiving applications for all sites is Friday, July 15, 2005.
